The idea
Engulfing candles, pin bars, dojis and hammers signal reversals or continuation.
Why it feels right
A candle is a picture of a fight, and stories about fights are compelling.
What the data said
Candle shape adds nothing beyond the direction of the candle: 0 for 131,822 cells across wick sizes, engulfing pairs, confirmation candles and trend context. A bigger wick means a bigger move both ways. The academic record says the same.
