The idea
After an impulse, price retraces to a ratio (38%, 50%, 61.8%, the 'golden pocket') and resumes.
Why it feels right
Retracements happen; some stop near a ratio. The ones that blow through are called 'invalidated' and forgotten.
What the data said
60 of 60 cells lost after costs, at every ratio and every anchor. The retrace is the breakout stalling: the moves that run never come back to be bought, so the retrace entry systematically selects the weak ones.
The moves that run do not come back to be bought at a ratio. A pullback entry systematically selects the breakouts that failed. 60 of 60 cells lost.
The toll (spread, commission, slippage, financing) is the biggest lever we have ever measured: lowering it from 2 to 0.55 basis points changed a strategy's result by more than any rule change. An edge that only exists below real costs is not an edge, and most intraday videos sit in that gap: positive gross, negative net.
